THE KOREAN ZOMBIE VS. RENATO MOICANO HEADLINES UFC GREENVILLE
Fans have been asking for months what the main event of UFC Fight Night 154 would be, and for the longest time, nobody understood. The event takes place June 22 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and also neighborhood boy Stephen”Wonderboy” Thompson unavailable to fight soon after the beating he took against Anthony Pettis in March, it was difficult to predict who would headline the card.
Now we understand.
The UFC announced this week that the main event of UFC Fight Night 154 is going to be an exciting five-round featherweight struggle between”The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Renato Moicano. These are a couple of the best featherweights in the world, and this fight should be a lot of fun. It might not be a title fight, but you would be hard-pressed to view some fans complain about this struggle Jung (14-5) is coming off of a last-second KO loss to Yair Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 139 in one of the greatest MMA battles of all time. Jung was well on his way to winning the bout before he got caught with an unorthodox upward elbow by Rodriguez in the 4:59 mark of the fifth round and suffered a shocking weight loss loss. His general UFC record dropped but the fact he has won six bucks in six UFC fights says everything about Jung. Win or lose, Jung is one of the fighters we’ve ever seen in the sport. It’ll be difficult to recover from such a barbarous KO following such a warfare of a struggle, but after shooting over six months off to cure, hopefully he’s 100 percent healthy and good to go for this fight. The loss to Rodriguez knocked him from this featherweight title picture for now, but if he could beat Moicano, he’ll jump right back in the mix.
Moicano (13-2-1) is also coming from a brutal KO reduction, this one to Jose Aldo back in UFC Fight Night 144. Like Jung, Moicano was winning the fight till Aldo turned the clock back unleashed a violent flurry of strikes that knocked Moicano out. Overall he’s still one of the featherweights in the world and 5-2 in the UFC. Besides losses to Aldo and Brian Ortega — there is no shame to losing to either of those men — Moicano has been one of the best featherweights from the UFC otherwise. Like Jung, he wants to rally from his last reduction in order to rejoin the featherweight title combination, but there’s no reason to thing he can not do it.
The chances for this fight ought to be interesting when they come out, but if I had to guess, Moicano will be marginally favored. Bettors will probably be looking to fade Jung coming from that bad autumn while Moicano is someone who constantly gets a lot of respect from the gambling public. Nonetheless, it’s definitely a close fight that could go either way, and MMA fans in Carolina should be excited they landed this exciting struggle as the main event of UFC Fight Night 154.
