MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR WEDNESDAY: INJURIES DERAIL BIG FIGHTS

We covered the loss of the huge upcoming heavyweight co-main event for UFC Fight Night 76 yesterday with the statement that Stipe Miocic was made to back out of his fight against Ben Rothwell, but there’s more to the story and some other fight announcements/injuries to discuss today. UFC appears to be searching for a short notice substitute for Miocic to intervene and combat Rothwell in Dublin, and a few notable names put their names into the ring. The very first was Matt Mitrione, that was battling very well against Rothwell before this season before diving right into a takedown effort that got him filed instantly via guillotine choke. Mitrione would not probably be the first option due to his quick defeat, but he’s a case considering his appetite for redemption. The largest issue with Mitrione right now is the fact he’s currently booked to combat Travis Browne in January. The other and most fascinating replacement chance came out of left field as world class kickboxer Tyrone Spong asked a chance to fight Rothwell. Spong, who now trains together with the Blackzilians at Boco Ratan, has made a name for himself as perhaps the best light heavyweight striker on the planet with a kickboxing listing of 74-7-1 with one no contest. His mixed martial arts qualifications, however, are much more sparse. Spong is now 2-0 in MMA, with just two victories under the World collection of penalizing banner, even though he hasn’t fought with an MMA bout in over two decades and has not competed professionally in any combat sport since suffering a leg injury against Gokhan Saki 18 weeks ago. The biggest problem here will be cash, as I’m convinced signing Spong to some UFC bargain on short notice wouldn’t come cheap. In other injury replacement news… Justin Lawrence vs Emmanuel Sanchez — Bellator 145 Regrettably, an injury to former Bellator champion Pat Curran has forced him from his fight against Justin Lawrence just over three months before their bout was set to happen. In measures Emmanuel Sanchez, a 25-year older fighter from the Roufusport Fitness Center in Milwaukee with an 11-2 record overall. Sanchez is currently 3-1 beneath the Bellator bannerlosing a choice to Curran already and many recently picked up a split decision victory over Henry Corrales two and a half ago at Bellator 143. This will certainly not be a simple for fight for Sanchez, especially on short notice and with such a quick turnaround. I’d expect Lawrence to be a medium to heavy preferred by the time that the chances are drawn up.
